Corrections and complaints

How to tell us we got something wrong, how we respond, and how we correct the record.

We work hard to get things right, but we will sometimes make mistakes. When we do, we want to know, and we will fix them quickly and openly.

How to contact us

Email corrections@aussieoutrage.com with:

  • the link to the story or page
  • what you believe is wrong, inaccurate or unfair
  • any evidence or documents that support your concern
  • how we can contact you

If you are named or referred to in a story, please tell us. You can also ask us to publish your response.

What happens next

  1. We acknowledge your complaint within two business days.
  2. We review it against our sources and our editorial standards. If it raises a factual error, we check it as a priority, and we may ask you for more information.
  3. We tell you what we've decided and why, normally within 14 days.
  4. If we got it wrong, we fix it as soon as we have confirmed the error.

Complaints about serious errors, especially ones that may affect someone's reputation, are dealt with first. Where it's appropriate, we may update or temporarily amend a story while we look into a complaint.

How we correct mistakes

  • Corrections are published openly. We correct the story and add a note at the bottom saying what was changed and when.
  • Significant corrections are also noted at the top of the story.
  • We don't quietly change facts. Minor fixes that don't change meaning (spelling, broken links, formatting) may be made without a note.
  • Where we have treated someone unfairly, we will correct the record, publish their response, and apologise where an apology is warranted.
  • Corrections follow the story: if we've shared it on social media, we'll share the correction there too.

Responses and right of reply

Anyone criticised in a story can send us a response at any time. We will publish a fair summary of it in the story, or the full response where that's reasonable, and note when it was added.

If you believe a story has defamed you, please contact us at corrections@aussieoutrage.com with "Concerns notice" in the subject line. Tell us which story and which statements you are concerned about, and why. We take these notices seriously, will respond promptly, and will consider any correction, apology or other remedy that is appropriate.
