The Nationals MP repaid $2,265.40 after the expenses watchdog found one of three family reunion trips it reviewed, a June 2023 trip to Melbourne for a personal matter, broke the rules.
Anne Webster's family reunion travel was one of a series of reviews IPEA ran into how politicians used family travel outside trips to Canberra. IPEA looked at three trips between December 2022 and June 2023, each with her husband flying in to join her.
Two were found consistent with the rules. The third, in June 2023, wasn't: Webster told IPEA she flew to Melbourne for a personal matter before travelling on to Sydney for work. Her office had understood those flights were paid from her own money, but they had been charged to the Commonwealth. She repaid the flights plus a 25% penalty.
Labor MP Meryl Swanson was invoiced $1,016.58 after a review in the same series.
