The Attorney-General repaid $9,915 in family airfares and penalty after the expenses watchdog found part of a 2023 work trip to Western Australia fell outside the rules.
Michelle Rowland's family travel came under scrutiny during the December 2025 expenses controversy. She disclosed that IPEA had already advised her that part of the family travel on a week-long work trip to Western Australia in July 2023 was outside the guidelines.
In March 2026, IPEA's figures confirmed she had repaid $7,932 in airfares for three family members, plus a 25% penalty of $1,983, applied automatically because the money wasn't repaid within 28 days.
Under the new rules, she can still bring her husband to portfolio events she is invited to, but he must now fly economy rather than business class.
