The One Nation senator repaid $3,391.68 after taking 45 taxis around Perth at taxpayers' expense while he was already being paid an allowance to cover that travel.
Within weeks of taking his Senate seat in July 2025, Tyron Whitten was regularly catching taxis around Perth at taxpayers' expense. IPEA's routine checks picked up 27 trips between July and September, and 18 more by November.
The rules don't allow taxis when a politician could reasonably use their private-plated car, or the allowance paid instead of one. Whitten was waiting for his car to be delivered, and was being paid the allowance in the meantime. He told IPEA he didn't know he was receiving it, and hadn't been properly briefed. IPEA noted the allowance had been covered in induction sessions he attended.
He asked to repay, and paid back $3,391.68 including a 25% penalty.
